Happy Easter from Bill and Marshall!

Bill O'Reilly is really really upset about sexism and the objectification of women. Even though he's totally okay being sexist and judging women based on their looks when it comes to Helen Thomas, the blaming of rape victims, women who use birth control, single mothers, the white, Christian, male power structure, his own totally creepy talk recordings or that pesky sexual harassment lawsuit. (We know there are more, but frankly, we've got other things to do and we'll be here all day!) But when it comes to Sarah Palin, he's putting his foot down. You know, except for those times that he's totally okay with it.

Now BillO is mighty peeved at rapper Eminem, claiming that he is "obviously on an obscene rant about Sarah Palin". Eminem does include the line "I'll invite Sarah Palin out to dinner, nail her" in his most recent video "We Made You", along with a clip of a sexed up Palin impersonator. However, one little line does not an "obscene rant" make. The video actually pokes fun at many celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Aniston, Bret Michaels, and the cast of Star Trek. And while I definitely think the video is sexist (as Eminem's videos usually are) I can acknowledge that it's a satire/joke.

I'm definitely not going to defend Eminem here, but there are a few things about BillO's stance that just really bug me and need to be said:
  • Eminem has always been sexist and/or misogynist (or at least he comes off that way in his music and videos). People have been talking about this for years. So what took BillO so long to call him out for it? Maybe because he doesn't give a shit about sexism, so much as he just loves to talk about how mean everyone is to poor Sarah Palin.
  • And lastly: "Few Americans take the vile rapper Eminem seriously. He represents the lowest form of entertainment in this country and is a publicity hound to boot. [...] All I want to do is repeat that Eminem means nothing." Um, Pot... Kettle... Bill O'Reilly just described himself!
Of course, we're not surprised that Bill O'Reilly is being a hypocrite... He and his buddies are just so damn good at it! You know how we feel about him... he can suck it!
